Ohio CoSN

Ohio CoSN is the state chapter for CoSN, The Consortium for School Networking. The mission and vision of Learn21 Ohio Chapter of CoSN is to develop standards for technology leaders in Ohio school systems, advocacy for emerging trends at the local and state level and continued professional development for technology leaders and other district leaders.

Who We Are

Ohio CoSN is the state chapter for CoSN, The Consortium for School Networking

In 2017, Learn21 sponsored a group of passionate Ohio EdTech Leaders to establish the Ohio CoSN state chapter. While Ohio CoSN’ s mission and leadership are separate from Learn21, this continued sponsorship allows the Chapter to exist under Learn21’s non-profit status, a requirement for all CoSN state chapters, and benefit from shared resources.

In 2022, Ohio CoSN in partnership with Learn21, became an ISTE affiliate for the state of Ohio. This allows both the Chapter and Learn21 to expand their respective support of best practice EdTech instructional and operational innovations. We thank Learn21 for their continued sponsorship and support of Ohio CoSN’ s mission “to grow, empower and celebrate an inclusive, collaborative community of K12 technology leaders, innovators, and learners.”

What We Do

The Mentorship program focuses on developing qualified edtech leaders and CTOs. The program also seeks to inform Superintendents and District Leaders of a cabinet level CTO position. The program is managed and sponsored by Ohio CoSN and supported by Learn21. Contact Jennifer Fry for more information.

Ohio CoSN helps prepare edtech leaders career path. Every year CoSN releases and Edtech IT Leadership Survey, and one thing we learn from it is that there is no single path to the CTO Role. In fact, CTOs across the country come up through 2 main paths, with 49% having a technology or technology or technical background, while 45% have an education or instructional background.

CoSN met the needs of edtech leaders who come up either of these paths, or from another direction by developing the Framework of Essential Skills of the K-12 CTO. It's the body of knowledge upon which CoSN/s CETL® exam is based and the guide to everything a successful CTO needs to know and do. All of CoSN's professional resources are based on the Framework.

Are you interested in achieving the Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL®) certification? Ohio CoSN provides CETL Workshops that teach you the fundamental principles of CoSN's Framework of Essential Skills–the basis of the nationally-accredited CETL® certification. Workshops are administered every Fall and Spring. If you would like to be in a collaborative and supportive cohort to study for the CETL® certification exam, contact Mike Daughtery.

Ohio CoSN has recognized the need to support, shape and guide the cybersecurity conversation for Ohio K12 leaders. Contact John Rizzo on how you can join the conversation and be informed.

Ohio Student Data Privacy Alliance (OSDPA)

Learn21 is the Ohio Student Data Privacy Alliance (OSDPA), a partnership with the Access 4 Learning Community’s Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC). Learn21 has joined this consortium on behalf of all schools in the state of Ohio.

What We Do

OSDPA provides every district in Ohio a free membership to access the statewide agreement that districts can use to ensure that the vendor is aware of and complies with National student data privacy laws. A searchable database of applications and vendors who have signed the statewide agreement with at least one school or district.  The database creates transparency for teachers, parents, and others to determine if an application is compliant. It also creates an inventory of apps being used and a way for teachers to request that a new application be vetted by their organization.
